Neo-rural practices appear as islands where possible alternatives to the economic, environmental and structural crisis of the contemporary urban system are experimented. Islands where, through production of food (and not only food) new ideas of society are constructed. Starting from this hypothesis, my contribution aims to meditate on the validity of some experiences that, moving from the unsatisfaction for the current socio- economic situation produced by neo-liberism, claim the necessity of auto- determination within a relational, social, economic and emotional perspective (Magatti, p.66). The farmer condition, here intended as a "continuous struggle towards autonomy and progress in a context characterised by multiple models of dependence and by a consequent process of exploitation and marginalization", represents today a complex and mutating empirical reality, that includes "much more farmers than ever existed in the past" (Ploeg, 2008, p.4). This condition, described by Ploeg as a "precarious and difficult combination between invisibility and omnipresence" (2008, p.4), experiments different models of property and management, configuring as an intersection between public and private, between "urban and not (or less) urban" (De Bonis, 2003), between territories, civil society and - possibly - institutional subjects. The attempt is then to grasp - by identifying the specific spatio-temporal factors - "the ensemble of dynamical relations, of the process as such" (Pizziolo, 2003, p.289), relations that prefigure virtuous transformations of the agricultural areas, and as a byproduct, a wider idea of collective wealth, founded on the evaluation of material and immaterial elements.
Le pratiche di neoruralità si configurano come isole all’interno delle quali si sperimentano alternative possibili alla crisi economica, ambientale e strutturale del sistema urbano contemporaneo. Isole dove, attraverso la produzione di cibo (e non solo) si costruiscono nuove idee di società. Muovendo da questa ipotesi, il contributo intende riflettere sulla validità di alcune esperienze che, muovendo dall’insoddisfazione per la situazione socio- economica attuale prodotta dall’impostazione neoliberista, rivendicano la necessità di autodeterminarsi nel quadro di una prospettiva relazionale (Magatti, p.66), sociale, economica e affettiva. La condizione contadina, qui intesa come «una continua lotta per l’autonomia e il progresso in un contesto caratterizzato da modelli multipli di dipendenza e da conseguenti processi di sfruttamento e marginalizzazione», rappresenta oggi una realtà empirica complessa e mutevole, che include «molti più contadini di quanti ne siano mai esistiti in passato» (Ploeg, 2008, p. 4). Questa condizione, descritta da Ploeg come una «precaria e difficile combinazione tra invisibilità e onnipresenza» (2008, p. 4), sperimenta diversi modelli proprietari e gestionali, configurandosi come un ambito di intersezione tra pubblico e privato, tra «urbano e non (o meno) urbano» (De Bonis, 2003), tra territori, società civile e – eventualmente – soggetti istituzionali. Il tentativo è quindi quello di cogliere – riconoscendo le specificità connesse ai fattori spazio-temporali – «l’insieme delle relazioni dinamiche, del processo in quanto tale» (Pizziolo, 2003, p.289), relazioni che prefigurano trasformazioni virtuose delle aree agricole, e come sottoprodotto, un’idea più ampia di benessere collettivo, fondata sulla valutazione di elementi materiali e immateriali.
